A painter between New York and Venice
First great European retrospective dedicated to this innovative American painter, who was masterfully able to depict the American society of his time through a keen observation of European art masters, both ancient and contemporary.
The exhibition includes around sixty artworks from public and private American collections, in addition to the only work that has come to Venice on loan from Uffizi for this occasion. His subject are mainly drawn from the bourgeoisie of Anglosaxon and protestant descent.
