Church of Santa Felicita, Florence

This is the oldest church in Florence and is located in the Oltrarno district. Erected in Roman times, the Church of Santa Felicita underwent numerous renovations over the centuries, until its definitive 18th century renovation by the architect Ferdinando Ruggieri.

It was first the parish of the Medici family and then that of the Lorena family when the two grand ducal families lived in Palazzo Pitti.

For this very reason, the church was the object of generous donations and was bestowed with valuable works of art.

Among these, on the right hand side of the first chapel is a masterpiece of Florentine Mannerism: the Deposition from the Cross by Pontormo, who also signed the fresco of the Annunciation.
