St. Mark’s Basilica, Florence

One of the churches in the historic centre of Florence, St. Mark’s Basilica was originally part of the homonymous convent, which is now a museum.

Inside are many fine works of art, such as Fra Angelico precious crucifix and the Giovan Battista Paggi’s Transfiguration.

The frescoes in the southern wing of Sant'Antonino’s cloister have been restored to their original splendour by the very recent and substantial restoration works.

The lunettes, frescoed with the Stories and Miracles of Sant’Antonino and Adoring Angels by Alessandro Tiarini, Lorenzo Cerini, Giovambattista Vanni, and Fabrizio Boschi in the 17th century, the medallions with Portraits of Illustrious Dominicans (frescoes attributed to the same artists as the lunettes) and the sculptural elements and stone tablets created by Michelozzo in the 15th century can now be admired.
