Francis Bacon and the existential condition in contemporary art
05/10/2012 - 27/01/2013
Until 27th January 2013, at its headquarters of Strozzina, the contemporary culture centre at Palazzo Strozzi, Florence, will be holding the exhibition Francis Bacon and the existential condition in contemporary art.
The starting point for the exhibition is a group of paintings by Francis Bacon, whose work creates a dialogue with five international contemporary artists (Nathalie Djurberg, Adrian Ghenie, Arcangelo Sassolino, Chiharu Shiota and Annegret Soltau), who share Bacon's interest for reflection on the theme of existence in the relationship between the individual and the community.
Thanks to the cooperation of the Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane, there is also a selection of material from the Francis Bacon archive: photographic portraits, reproductions of great masterpieces of the past, film stills, images taken from books and magazines, all used by the artist as tools in the creation of his work.
