The Scansano Museum of Vineyards and Wine
Located in Palazzo Pretorio, in the centre of Scansano, the Museum of Vineyards and Wine offers a complete panorama of grape production areas, soil characteristics and grape cultivation and harvesting methods.
The undisputed protagonist is Morellino di Scansano, but other southern Tuscan DOC wines are also to be found.
In particular, the historic value of wine in these areas and its ties to the local culture and tradition are highlighted, although in contrast with modern market rules.
The museum itinerary begins with the section on the history and archaeology of wine, and then continues with the localisation of different production areas and the analysis of the various work phases, from the planting of vines to the wine making process.
Last but not least are the wine-tasting and information areas.
The Scansano Museum of Vineyards and Wine is the headquarters of the “Strade del Vino Colli di Maremma”, an association that organises food and wine itineraries throughout the region.
