Imperial War Museum, London

The Imperial War Museum is truly unique and probably one of London’s main attractions.

Located in what was once the Bethlem Hospital, it offers an in-depth panorama of the very concept of war, on its social implications and the consequences of each and every war.

In addition to the countless artefacts, tanks, aeroplanes and various military devices exhibited, the museum also hosts exhibitions that delve into the depths of each aspect of war, such as food and wartime “cuisine”.

The museum also has a cutting edge multimedia section, which successfully transports visitors into in the sombre atmosphere of an actual conflict.

Conflicts occurring after the First and Second World Wars, including the Cold War, that greatly marked world history are also analysed.

The upper floors house touching exhibitions on genocide and crimes against humanity, with a special focus on the Holocaust, Former Yugoslavia and Rwanda.

So much more than a simple history lesson, this museum deeply touches the conscience, prompting visitors to reflect on the absurdity of war.
