South London Gallery, London
Recently expanded through the intervention of one of London’s most prestigious architectural firms, the South London Gallery is located in Peckham Road, near Camberwell College of Arts.
One of the city’s most elegant art venues, the South London Gallery was inaugurated in 1981. Ever since it has been a point of reference for contemporary art for the many events taking place there.
The Gallery has exhibited the work of artists such as Gilbert & George, Julian Schnabel and Mark Queen.
The current collection includes around 6000 works, ranging from Victorian paintings to 1960s prints, lithographs, ceramics and sculptures.
Temporary exhibitions and live art performances are often held here, as are seminars and educational courses.
A beautiful Victorian terraced house has been fully refurbished and now houses a café that serves excellent salad-based lunches and brunches, sandwiches and savoury tarts and quiches.
