The Virgin London Marathon takes place on 21 March 2013, one of the most important running events in the world.
Along with the Berlin, Boston, New York and Chicago marathons, this is one of the five Major World Marathon with tens of thousands of participants each year.
Created in 1981 as the Gillette London Marathon, this event has become a regular spring event in London, televised the world over.
The race starts in Greenwich Park and covers both banks of the Thames, crossing over Tower Bridge and Canary Wharf and passing by the London Eye, the House of Parliament and other landmarks in the city before ending at The Mall in front of Buckingham Palace.
