Constantine 313 AD
25/10/2012 - 27/03/2013
From 25th October 2012 to 3rd March 2013, Palazzo Reale, Milan will be hosting the exhibition Constantine 313 AD, to celebrate the famous Edict of Milan, which, 1700 years on, marks a decisive turning point in history. After centuries of persecution, the edict declared the Christian faith as licit and promoted tolerance of any religious confession.
Milan (Mediolanum) was named political and administrative capital of the Roman Empire and in just a short time became its ethical and cultural lodestar.
The exhibition unites more than 200 exhibits, including archaeological finds and works of art from prestigious museums in Italy and abroad, such as Rome's Capitoline Museums, the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, the Victoria & Albert Museum and British Museum in London and the National Gallery in Washington, to bring the atmosphere of imperial Milan and the beginning of a new era of openness to different cultures and civilisations back to life.
