From 28 March to 21 April on the stage of Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Giuseppe Verdi’s Macbeth will be staged with new scenery under the direction of Giorgio Barberio Corsetti, who is still quite tightlipped about the event.
Giuseppe Verdi’s tenth opera based on the libretto by Francesco Maria Piave and Andrea Maffei, in turn based on the tragedy of the same name by William Shakespeare, Macbeth was long one of Verdi’s most underappreciated and least performed works until its extraordinary interpretation by Maria Callas in 1952 on the stage of La Scala.
After the spectacular versions by Giorgio Strehler and Graham Vick, this new staging of Macbeth is already considered to be unmissable, celebrating the two-hundredth birthday of the great Italian composer.
