Casina delle Civette Museum – Villa Torlonia, Rome
The Museo della Casina delle delle Civette (House of the Owls Museum) in Rome is located in the park of Villa Torlonia on via Nomentana.
The building, which dates back to 1840, boasts an extremely original architecture and many neo-Medieval and Art Nouveau decorative elements, with majolicas, stuccoes and mosaics.
In the 1900s, the house was modified and extended and more than 40 stained glass windows were created by various artists of the time.
It was this collection that led to the idea of transforming the Casina delle Civette into a stained glass museum.
In addition to the original windows, which have been restored and placed in their original positions, there are also other examples and around one hundred sketches and preliminary drawings.
The museum itinerary includes a tour of the rooms where Prince Torlonia lived, which are decorated with a recurring owl theme, from where the house takes its name.
