MACRO / MACRO Testaccio, Rome
The MACRO – Contemporary Art Museum in Rome is located in the former Peroni industrial plant, which was renovated and converted into an exhibition space.
The permanent collection mainly focuses on two historic periods: the first, from the 1960s to 2000, includes works by Italian artists belonging to the Forma 1 group and the so-called Scuola del Popolo and Nuova Scuola Romana, including Accardi, Schifano, Rotella, Dessì and Tireli, to name just a few.
The second period relates to more recent Italian contemporary art, from 2001 to date.
The MACRO Testaccio (better known by its original name of MACRO Future), situated in Testaccio, near the former Slaughterhouse, is dedicated to cultural and artistic events. It also houses the La Pelanda cultural production centre, which holds workshops and artistic training activities.
Both areas are coming increasingly into their own as reference points for contemporary Italian and international art, with a full calendar of exhibitions and events throughout the year.
