Vermeer. The Golden Century of Dutch Art
01/10/2012 - 20/01/2013
Scuderie del Quirinale (Quirinal Stables) in Rome are proud to present Vermeer. The Golden Century of Dutch Art from October 1 2012 to January 20 2013.
This is the first grand exhibition entirely dedicated to the Dutch painter to ever be organized in Italy, a world-scale event in every sense of the word that brings the works of one of the greatest masters of Flemish painting of the 1600's to the Italian capital.
Jan Vermeer was the author of no more than thirty five paintings in his life-time, of which more than half cannot be brought out of the museums where they kept to be exhibited elsewhere.
There is not a single art collection in Italy that can count even one of Vermeer's works… which is why an exhibition such as this one displaying ten works of this artist is all the more a truly remarkable and exceptional event.
The collection includes, alongside Vermeer’s masterpieces, a selection of paintings by other artists of his time, some of the most important on the artistic landscape of the Golden Century of the Netherlands.
