Buccone Wine Shop, Rome

Originally the carriage house used to store the Cavalcabò’s Marquises Carriages, then a tavern, the building was transformed into a wine shop in 1969.

It was the first shop in Rome to stock only top end wines, including wines from other Italian regions.

The interiors are the same as they were in the early 1900s, with the inlaid wooden bar with marble top, high shelves and vaulted brick ceilings. On top of a large amphora is an antique crank-handle cash register of excellent workmanship.

The walls are adorned with deco mirrors, plates, antique prints and photographs and historic artefacts that narrate the history of the area and the wine.

As well as wines and liqueurs, the Buccone Wine Shop also stocks a selection of Italian, French and Welsh mineral waters and Italian and foreign beers.

Some of the best Italian extra virgin olive oils produced in the region and aromatic and spiced oils are also available to purchase.

There are also pasta dishes, soups, meat dishes and typical Italian products.
