Capogrossi. A retrospective.

29/09/2012 - 10/02/2013

Until 10th February 2012, the Peggy Guggenheim Foundation in Palazzo Venier, Venice, will be hosting the exhibition Capogrossi. A restrospective, an important and much-awaited retrospective dedicated to one of the leading lights of the art scene in the post-war period.

Created in association with the Capogrossi Archive Foundation in Rome, the exhibition includes more than seventy works, including paintings and works on paper, which range for the figurative masterpieces of the Thirties, with paintings like I canottieri (1933), Il temporale (1933), La piena sul Tevere (1933), to the large Formats of the Sixties, such as Superficie 399 (1961) and Superficie 449 (1962), dominated by his archetypal and original symbol.

The works in the exhibition come from private collections and important museums, including the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome, the Mart in Rovereto, Turin's Gallery of Modern Art and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, which purchased the painting Superficie 210 as early as 1958.
