This unusual garden, designed and created by the Franco-American sculptress, Niki de Saint Phaille, is nestled between the sea and Capalbio.
Here visitors can stroll amidst majestic Tarot card sculptures, covered in mosaics, murrine (coloured glass), ceramics, enamelling and mirrors.
Inspired by Antoni Gaudì’s Parque Guell in Barcelona, the sculptress began work on this artistic park in 1979, taking 17 years to complete it.
The entrance pavilion was designed by the famous Swiss architect, Mario Botta.
Set in the wonderful Tuscan countryside in the Garavicchio holding in Capalbio, the Tarot Garden has sculptures of the 22 Major Arcana that are 12 – 15 metres tall.
Of the various works, one in particular is worthy of special mention: the Empress’ sculpture-residence, whose interior furnishings, created by the sculptress herself, underline the link between Art, Architecture, and Design.
