Diaccia Botrona Natural Reserve

It is a vast, marsh environment, connected to the sea by canals, and is regarded as one of Italy’s most important wetlands in Italy on account of its unique ecosystem.

Falcons, herons, geese and ducks are to be found here, alongside mammals such as foxes, badgers, hedgehogs, porcupines, tortoises, tree frogs and grass snakes. What’s more, Diaccia Botrona is one of the few areas in Italy to which Greater flamingos migrate.

It is therefore particularly attractive to birdwatchers and nature watchers.

The Casa Rossa Ximenes Multimedia Museum is also located in the reserve. Here visitors can observe reserve animals from a distance, through a remotely controlled camera system.
