Opened in 1964, the Fondation Maeght in St Paul de Vence hosts one of the most important collections of art from the 20th century.
Inside the spacious complex designed by the Catalan architect Josep Lluis Sert, which comprises a main building surrounded by greenery and gardens, visitors can admire the masterpieces of Bonnard, Matisse, Picasso, Braque, Léger, Chagall, Klee, Kandinsky, Miró, Giacometti, Calder, and Bacon.
The gardens instead make room for the very large plastic and statuesque works, among which there are sculptures by Alberto Giacometti, others in bronze and ceramics sculpted by Joan Miró, and the magnificent fountain decorated by Georges Braque.
In addition to the collection that is permanently on display, which each year attracts more than 200,000 visitors, the Fondation Maeght is the site of many temporary exhibitions that are open to the public year round.
