Since 1894 Babington’s Tea Room, in its historical location in Piazza di Spagna in Rome, has been synonymous with serving tea in the most rigorous British tradition.
Founded in 1893 by Isabel Cargil and Anna Maria Babington, to provide the English speaking community in Rome a place where they might read and take tea, which then in Italy could only be bought at the chemist’s shop, the store is still managed by the Cargil Family.
The Tea Room has been decorated in nineteenth century style, conserving decorations, prints and furniture of that era intact.
Over 130 teas and blends, brought from all over the world, are available, which may be had with biscuits, muffins, sweets and scones, served piping hot with home made preserves.
Babington’s is also the perfect place for traditional breakfasts, brunches and luncheons in the British style, with sandwiches, crumpets, salads and savoury dishes such as rice with curry, chutney and ground nuts.
There is also a Tea Shop on the premises where one may purchase tea, herbal infusions and blends in elegant gift boxes and as well classic English tea sets.
Babington’s is famous for its huge selection of cups, mugs, tea pots, sugar bowls and creamers as well as many other accessories, preserves, marmalades, sweets and biscuits, sugars, special salts and wonderful bars of fine chocolate.
