The Twentieth Century Museum was newly inaugurated in December 2010 and is located in Palazzo dell’Arengario, in the centre ofMilan.
Architects Italo Rota and Fabio Fornasari limited external intervention to a simple, conservative restoration, concentrating their efforts on interior layout and modernization.
The works exhibited come from Milan’s Municipal Art Collections and from donations and private collections, including the Jucker collection and the Boschi di Stefano museum house.
Jucker collection works include paintings by artists such as Picasso, Modigliani and select Futurists.
In all, Museo del Novecento exhibits around 400 canvases, paintings and statues by artists such as Carrà, Soffici, De Chirico, Boccioni, Sironi, Morandi, Fontana, Manzoni and Kounellis.
The journey begins with two De Chirico’s sculptures and the Fourth Estate, a famous painting by Pellizza da Volpedo and an icon and symbol of the Italian twentieth-century. The exhibition then moves on to Futurist, Spatialist and Arte Povera works.
