Theatre and cuisine in the Mandrake by Machiavelli

The Mandrake at theatre

October 26th | 8.00 pm

A unique experience between theatre and cuisine, like at the Medici court in the 16th century. For one evening the Baglioni Relais Santa Croce in Florence jump back to the Medici era with an event that combines culinary art with that of the stage.

A journey back in time with the exhilarating and irreverent representation of Machiavelli’s Mandragola. Callimachus, a rich scion of a good family, is hopelessly in love with Lucrezia,  young and beautiful wife of Messer Nicia, a stupid and credulous notary. Taking advantage of the woman’s difficulty in getting pregnant, Callimaco pretends to be a doctor, creator of a magic potion based on mandrake capable of making pregnant any woman who drinks it. The trouble is that the first man to lie with her will die later.

In the wonderful Sala della Musica of the Baglioni Relais Santa Croce, which perfectly frames the Renaissance atmosphere of Machiavelli, an amusing theatrical game between misunderstandings, deceptions and surprising twists, brought to the stage by “Florence Live Theatre”, the first Italian company to represent in English the great classics of Italian Theatre.

The event will take place on October 26th, at 8 pm. The first act will be accompanied by an aperitif, while a buffet dinner prepared at the restaurant “Guelfi e Ghibellini” by chef Niccolò De Riu will be served during the break.
