The gold experience

Mario Berta Battiloro continues the old craft started in 1926. The last craftsman of his kind left in Europe, the Battiloro (literally ‘gold beater’) is the guardian of the art of working gold, silver and other precious metals into gossamer-thin sheets for an array of applications. This experience offers you a unique opportunity to meet the last maestro in his historic workshop – in the very building where Titian, that titan of Venetian painting, once lived – and see for yourself how gold is transformed into gold leaf, from melting and laminating through to beating until the leaf is cut and packaged.
